| Component 1 – Students will study 5 musical styles. During this component the students will learn key musical features, language and analysis skills linked to the music styles. The students will use this knowledge to complete a set assignment where they create their own portfolio that demonstrates an understanding of the musical styles they have studied. This will be delivered and collected through a range of formats including performance, presentations and compositional and analysis tasks. The students will specialise on one main instrument however may use other instruments and develop their skills to complete the composition tasks included in this component. | During the spring term, students will have completed a mock assessment of Component 1 in preparation for completing their coursework in response to the Pearson Set Assignment. The students will have 12 hours to complete their Component 1 using the skills and knowledge of musical skills gained during the guided learning hours. This should include three popular music styles and two world/classical music styles. Once this is completed and submitted, the students move onto Component 2: Musical Skills Development where they audit their current musical skills and identify areas for development. | During this term students complete a mock assessment on Component 2: Musical Skills Development. This allows the students to build a structured portfolio in response to the task presented in the coursework component. This equips students with the interpretation skills of the Pearson Set Assignment and embeds knowledge on evidence requirements and developmental skills as a musician. |

| During the autumn term, the students complete their Component 2 coursework. This requires the students to have 15 hours under assessment conditions to complete their coursework. This will require students to respond to a new set assignment from the exam board, responding to a brief/theme. The students submit their coursework in early December using the development of their musical skills and targets from the summer term of Year 10 to inform their development areas. | The final phase of the course requires students to complete an external assignment. Component 3 is still coursework based however is marked externally. The students are given 23 hours to complete various tasks in response to a musical brief set by the exam board. During this time students are allocated time to research the chosen style from the list provided by the exam board as well as identify features of their chosen song from the assignment brief. Afterwards students complete their preparation task before moving onto the project creation. This involved student reimagining the chosen song in their choice of genre taken from the brief. The students have 16 hours to develop their product before evaluating the process for 1 hour. The coursework is submitted to the class teacher for external moderation. | The BTEC in Music Practice is submitted in May. After this the students may use the lessons for essential interventions in other subjects as coursework is completed. |
