Curriculum Intent

At The Oldershaw School, our curriculum is designed to empower every student aged 11–16 to achieve academic excellence, personal growth and readiness for life beyond school. Rooted in our ethos of Pride, Kindness and Resilience, our intent is to provide a broad, balanced and ambitious education that enables all students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and cultural capital necessary to succeed in the modern world.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the following principles:

  • Clarity and Coherence: We set out clear, sequenced learning pathways in every subject, ensuring that students build upon prior knowledge and make meaningful connections across the curriculum.
  • High Expectations and Equality: We are committed to challenging all learners, providing appropriate support and stretch so that every student, regardless of starting point or background, can fulfil their potential.
  • Relevance and Enrichment: Our curriculum aims to be responsive to our local context in Wallasey, drawing on real-world issues, diverse perspectives and enrichment opportunities that inspire curiosity and foster lifelong learning.
  • Character and Community: In line with our ethos, we nurture respect, resilience and responsibility, ensuring students develop not only academically but also personally and socially, prepared to contribute positively to our school and wider community.

Our intent is that, by the end of Key Stage 4, every student at The Oldershaw School is equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to thrive in further education, employment and as active citizens.

If you require more information about our curriculum, please contact the school office.

We provide curriculum playlists within each subject area as our remote education provision. These playlists are designed to allow students both attending school and learning remotely to follow the same learning path ensuring continuity of learning.
